Office/Mudroom Transformation

Welcome Back & Happy Monday!befoer

Today’s weather has me wanting to curl back up in bed, sip tea and watch movies all day. Unfortunately this is not going to happen as I have multiple things on the agenda today. So, I’m going to do my best to ignore this cold and rainy weather!

Today’s post is very exciting; as I have wanted to redo this space forever. Previously, this was a dinning room but I felt that it didn’t match the vibe of my one bedroom lake house. This room also shares space with our stackable washer and
dryer. Obviously, this isn’t ideal, but when you have a small Screen Shot 2016-03-14 at 4.48.08 PM
house you have to make the best out of each room, which is exactly what I did. As my boyfriend and I are still in our 20’s we didn’t find it useful or necessary to have a dinning room, so we decided to make this room a multifunctional office space. We absolutely love how this space turned out and we use it daily.

This space has 3 large windows that allow a lot of natural light to enter and provides a lovely view of our backyard. However, I had to block out some sunlight when working at the desk. I Screen Shot 2016-02-27 at 11.44.59 AMimplemented this by adding a simple tab-top window treatment to the south windows. Moving on, this space always had a wainscoting detail applied to the north wall. The original wainscoting had started to bend and age so I recreated it with barn boards. I really enjoy the modern mixed rustic look, and this is exactly what I achieved with the barn wood. Next, I wanted to create a barrier between the washer/dryer and office space. I was able to this by installing a room divider. The divider acts as a wall but not as harsh. It typically looks like a curtain or blind but blocks out the visibility of the washer and dryer completely. For more storage space, I added a dresser to the north wall and a cube shelf to the east wall. Both of these items take up limited space and fit well within this room. I also added a grey-wash desk and a blue covered accident chair to complete the office look. As for minor details and Screen Shot 2016-02-27 at 11.45.58 AMaccessories I added a repurposed window frame now corkboard to the north wall and all necessary office supplies. I will leave a list of all the items in this room and where I purchased them.
